Journey Inn, an eco-retreat was built in 2006 and has been run as a licensed Bed & Breakfast for 14 years.  The Cottage, also on the property, is licensed as a Tourist Rooming House, and also rented as an Airbnb property.

 

The Inn was built with environmentally health-focused building materials. The Cottage was remodeled with updated windows, tiled and recycled wood floors and nontoxic paints.

 

The lower level of the Cottage was built out as our BodyMind Center consisting of two offices, bathroom and Japanese Soaking Tub. Also, storage area and tool room.

 

Journey Inn is located on 53 acres of land that include pines, woods, prairie and a creek that runs through it.  It is across the road from Morgan Coulee prairie, a state natural area, creating a natural buffer for privacy.  The front yard contains a restored prairie. The fenced-in back yard has raised garden beds and fruit trees.

 

The property includes: The Inn (four guest rooms with private bathrooms plus an owners quarters), Cottage (two bedrooms, two bathrooms) with a finished lower level (currently being used as our BodyMind Center—two rooms, spa bathroom and storage areas) and a pole shed garage.    

 

Located three miles from the town of Maiden Rock/Lake Pepin, and further down the Great River Road, Stockholm and Pepin, Journey Inn is part of a lively creative community.  Being one hour from St Paul, 30-minute drive to Red Wing, MN, you can enjoy the fun of city life while living in a peaceful, quiet environment.  

 

The income from Journey Inn was supplemented by other streams of income, such as, Life Direction Coaching, guided meditation, private yoga sessions, massage and energy therapy and spa services. Charlene and John conducted various small retreats through the year as well as provided space for others to do retreats.
